Beijing Travel Car, officially known as Beijing Beilü Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd., is one of the earliest travel car manufacturers in China and was once a backbone enterprise in the light passenger vehicle sector. Established in 1958, Beilü Automobile has a rich historical background, evolving from a transportation enterprise to a complete vehicle production plant. The company began to trial-produce its first travel car in 1971, and by 1985, it had developed an annual production capacity of more than 2,000 travel cars, becoming one of the top three travel car manufacturers in China's automotive industry.
Throughout its development, Beilü Automobile has undergone multiple transformations, including pilot shareholding system reform, standardized shareholding system restructuring, public issuance of stocks, listing as a public company in different locations, and the transfer of legal person shares to foreign shares to become a foreign-invested shareholding limited company. In 1995, Beilü successfully transferred 25% of its legal person shares to Isuzu Motors of Japan and Itochu Corporation, becoming the first foreign-invested shareholding limited company to go public in China.
In November 2001, after the reorganization of Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Company and Beijing Shuanghuan Industrial Corporation, Beijing Beilü Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was officially established. Under the new reform context, Beilü Automobile successfully introduced the complete vehicle technology of Isuzu Motors of Japan and cooperated with a renowned Australian automotive design company to make several significant improvements to the existing models, launching a new range of light passenger vehicles.
