Beiquan Automobile is an important automotive brand in the history of Chongqing, with a history that dates back to the establishment of the Beibei Machinery Factory in 1958, commonly known as "Beiji Factory." In 1979, Beiji Factory was renamed "Chongqing Agricultural Automobile Manufacturing Factory," and the Beiquan brand of automobiles was born. The brand mainly produced 3-ton agricultural trucks and 2.5-ton agricultural dump trucks, which began to be trial-produced in the mid-1970s and gradually developed into a well-known automotive brand in the Chongqing area.
Beiquan Automobile enjoyed a high reputation in the local area of Chongqing, especially for its minibuses, which were widely used in urban public transportation. These vehicles were not only popular in the Chongqing area but also had some unique designs, such as the convenient feature of allowing passengers to get on and off while driving.
Over time, Beiquan Automobile also experienced a series of transformations and developments. The Lifan Group once used "Beiquan" brand buses as a springboard to enter the automotive industry. However, Beiquan Automobile did not continue to develop independently and was eventually acquired by other automotive enterprises. It is reported that the vehicle manufacturing qualifications of Beiquan Automobile were ultimately acquired by Geely.
As a collective memory of a generation, the fate of Beiquan Automobile is closely linked to the development of the city of Chongqing. It has not only witnessed the growth of Chongqing's automotive industry but also reflected a period of history in China's automotive industry. Although Beiquan Automobile is no longer an independent brand today, it still holds a place in the history of China's automotive industry.
