Liming Automobile was a brand located in Yizhou City, Jiangsu Province, and was once one of the earliest independent automobile brands in China. It mainly produced hardtop jeeps and light passenger vehicles, with the brand name "Liming." Liming Automobile was very well-known in the 1980s and 1990s, not only popular domestically but also exported to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and other regions. In 1988, Liming Automobile was renamed to Yizhou Automobile Manufacturing Factory. By 1992, the output value of Liming Automobile reached 1.08 billion yuan, with profits and taxes of 186 million yuan, becoming one of the top five hundred largest industrial enterprises in the country.
However, due to issues such as outdated products and lagging technology, Liming Automobile underwent asset restructuring with SAIC Motor (Shanghai Automotive Group) in 1999. After the restructuring, SAIC Motor invested and established SAIC Yizhou Automobile Co., Ltd., and began to produce its own brand of "Saibao" light passenger vehicles and "Roewe" sedans. The Liming Automobile brand gradually faded from people's view, but it was once the pride of Yizhou City and made significant contributions to the local industrialization and the development of the automotive industry. Although Liming Automobile no longer exists, its former glory and impact on Yizhou City are still worth remembering.
